Picture a stranger who finds your Google page. They see your photos, your phone number and a few reviews. Then they spot the last update: "8 months ago". Is the shop still open? Did the owner move away? Some of them may simply try the next shop on the list.
A Google Business Profile post is a short update on your page that tells people someone is still looking after it. This guide shows what to write, what to avoid, and gives three examples and a year of ideas.
What is a Google Business Profile post?
A Google Business Profile post is a short update you add to your Google page. Google's help page says: "You can post updates on your Business Profile to share announcements, offers, updates, and event details directly with your customers on Search and Maps."
What are the three types of post?
- Updates are general news, such as new timings or a new service.
- Offers are for a deal that has a start and an end date.
- Events are for something that happens on a set date, such as a camp or an open day.
For most small shops and clinics, a plain Update is enough.
Where do posts show, and how long do they stay?
Posts show on your profile, which customers see on Search and Maps. Google's help page says: "Posts older than 6 months are archived unless a date range is set."
So a page that has not been updated for half a year can slowly lose its posts. To a customer, a page with no new posts can look closed or forgotten. That is our opinion, not a Google rule. Google does not say posts raise your rank, and we explain what is known in does a Google Business Profile help local SEO.
What should I write in a Google post?
- A new service you have started.
- News, such as new timings or a new staff member joining.
- A festival greeting for Diwali, Eid or Christmas, with your holiday timings.
- An offer you will honour, with the dates it runs.
Keep to one idea, in two or three sentences. Say what is new and when.
What should I never write in a Google post?
- Claims you made up, or cannot prove.
- A price you will not honour when the customer walks in.
- Medical claims or treatment results.
- A phone number in the text, because Google may reject a post if it cannot verify the number.

Questions about Google posts
Can I put my phone number in a Google post?
It is better to leave it out. Google's help page says a post with a phone number in the text may be rejected if Google cannot verify the number. Your Google page already shows your phone number, so a post does not need to repeat it.
How long should a Google post be?
Short is fine. Two or three sentences with one clear idea is enough for most posts. Say what is new, give the date or timing if there is one, and stop there.
Can I post the same message every month?
It is better to write something new each time. A repeated message gives a customer little reason to believe the page is looked after. Pick a fresh idea each month, such as a season, a festival, a change in timings or a service you have started.
Will ReviewSaathi post on my page without asking me?
No. ReviewSaathi writes one post a month, and the owner approves it first. Google approval for ReviewSaathi's posting access is pending, so please check the homepage for current status before you count on it.
